After a solid freshman season, Will Barton decided to go back to Memphis for his sophomore year. It was a good decision for Barton who improved in almost every statistical category and put him in a better draft position. Barton is now in a good position to be drafted after his strong 2nd season in Memphis.
The first thing that stands out about Barton is that he is a scorer. He is able to get points in a variety of ways. The biggest part of Barton's game that he improved from last year is his jump-shot, which saw a very good increase in efficiency. He is still prone to bad shots and being a streaky shooter, but he is much improved over last year. The strength of his game is his ability to get to the rim and take advantage of opportunities in transition. He shows the ability to get others involved a bit which is shows his versatility as a wing player.
Defensively, Barton has a good length and athletic ability that projects well to the NBA. He will need to add weight to his skinny frame but shows the potential to be a good defender. He is able to get deflection and tips on balls in the passing lane and his rebounding numbers are excellent for a wing player.
Barton is a very talented player that could see his stock rise once he gets into individual workouts. His talent level was never in question but rather if he could put it all together. Barton took a big step in the right direction this year and NBA teams will be intrigued to see how much more he can improve with some NBA coaching.
